Seippelabel

Seippelabel is back with its first compilation since 2018. Seippelabel Vol. 11 showcases ambient artists from China and those with a connection to the country. It is to date the most comprehensive collection of artists in the genre to be released. This personal survey of ambient music encompasses the styles of drone, experimental, modern classical, field recordings, and post-rock that float around ambient as a genre.

Anita Pan

信鴿 Seon Ga

信鴿 Seon Ga is the duo project between producers Yu Hein and thruoutin. Deriving from the Cantonese term for homing pigeons, the name embodies the creative process while making this EP. They used WeChat to send musical ideas back and forth, just like how WWI soldiers relied on carrier pigeons to exchange messages across the battlefield, encapsulating the timeless essence of communication.

《Fixing Messages》是信鴿 Seon Ga对合成器音色、磁带采样及田野录音的精妙组合，听起来就像一封来自记忆深藏处的声音信件。其灵感来源于一战中的“飞鸽传书”——身处不同战壕的士兵们会用信鸽来相互传递信息。Seon Ga希望成为信使，就像这些鸽子一样，将当下与过去联系在一起，唤起听者在这个信息混乱时代下的情绪共鸣。

谢玉岗 Xie Yugang

Born in Tianjin in 1976, 谢玉岗 Xie Yugang moved to Dalian in 1995, and formed the band Wang Wen in 1999 as the main guitarist. From 2003 to 2016, the group published 9 studio albums, 1 split, and 1 movie soundtrack. In 2015, he published the album Sunset Sunset with Yang Haisong.

1976年生于天津，95年移居大连，99年组建惘闻乐队担任吉他手。2003年至2016年，先后同惘闻出版发行了9张录音室专辑，1张Split合辑，1张电影配乐专辑。2015年，和杨海崧一起出版发行了唱片《晚霞子》。

CTAFAD

Electronic musician and guitarist, Sun Dawei is a very active composer in China. He started learning guitar at the age of fourteen, and later formed a punk band, which became the catalyst for him to open the door to music. He settled in Beijing in 1999, then began to research and create electronic music. At the same time began to dabble in fashion shows, film, drama, and commercial soundtrack work. After several transformations, in order to explore different music spaces, he announced a new musician project - CTAFAD. In 2020, Vertical Horizontal was published on "Shanshui Music". On this album, you can hear unmodified soundscapes, a sense of atmospheric space, and ambitious ultrasonic experiments. In the end, an epic The core sound field has been carefully polished. The rhythms and bass line are proficient in interaction from the beginning, gradually unfolding and never extinguishing. In the subsequent release of Vertical Horizontal Extended and other EP albums, CTAFAD invited Claudio PRC, Blazej Malinowski, Atomic Moog, Polygonia, Laertes, and IORI participated in remixing the album. A new music-making journey is driven by inner passion and exploration, collaboration and development. CTAFAD has slowly began to emerge on many foreign Techno labels including Sungate, Indefinite Pitch, Oslated, Intersum, Black Chrysalis Archives, and KitchenSync. At the same time, he has also created a new music label called GSXS.

電子音樂人、吉他手，孫大威是中國非常活躍的作曲家。十四歲時開始學習吉他，之後組建朋克樂隊， 這成為了他開啓音樂大門的催化劑。1999年定居北京，隨後開始了電子音樂研究和創作，同時期開始 涉獵Fashion Show、電影、話劇和廣告配樂工作。在數次蛻變之後，為了探索不同的音樂空間。他公 布了新的音樂人項目 - CTAFAD。 2020年在“Shanshui Music”出版了「縱橫 Vertical Horizontal」，在這張專輯裏妳可以聽到 “沒有過多 修飾的原始音色、像大氣層般的空間感、雄心勃勃的超聲波實驗。 最終，一個史詩般的內核聲場經過 細致的打磨。節奏和低音線從一開始就精通互動，逐漸展開而永不熄滅。” 在之後出版的「縱橫 Vertical Horizontal Extended」等多張EP專輯裏他邀請Claudio PRC、Blazej Malinowski、Atomic Moog、Polygonia、Laertes和IORI參與專輯的Remix合作。 新的音樂創作旅程在內心的熱情以及探索、合作和發展上前行。慢慢開始在國外眾多Techno廠牌嶄露 頭⻆。如: Sungate、Indefinite Pitch、Oslated、Intersum、Black Chrysalis Archives和KitchenSync。 同時期他也創建新的音樂廠牌 “觀山悉水 GSXS” - 心於思想，全神視野。

李剑峰 JF LEE

李剑峰JF Lee is an electronic ambient musician, tape magician, and music therapist. Born in Shanghai in June 1975, 李剑峰JF Lee was the lead singer of a rock band in his early years and later became the manager of a music label. He then went on to be the operator of a livehouse. This identity in front of and behind the scenes has always been with his music career over the last 30 years. Recently, he has been inspired by tape loops and has begun moving towards ambient music and sound art, and musical healing. His music ranges from ambient, abstract textures to lo-fi white noise soundscapes incorporating micro-acoustic beats. All his sets are unique and the product of complex environments. 李剑峰JF Lee explores the multiple possibilities of the dialectics of simplicity and complexity from changes in identity and environment.

氛围音乐/磁带魔术师/电子音乐人/音乐疗愈师 1975年6月出生于上海，从早年摇滚乐队主唱到音乐厂牌主理人再到Livehouse运营者，这种台前幕后的身份始终伴随他的音乐生涯30年，近几年他从Tapeloop受到启发，开始走向氛围音乐和声音艺术，并进入音乐疗愈领域，他的音乐从环境的、抽象的纹理到低保真白噪音的声音场景融合微声节拍。他所有的布景都是独特的，是复杂环境的产物。李剑峰从身份和环境的变化中，探索简单与复杂辩证的多重可能性。

Fountain of Tempo

Fountain of Tempo is a side project by music producer Jiang Hao. The project tends to translate different sound sources into abstract textures, creating brand new soundscapes.

Fountain of Tempo是音乐制作人姜浩的一个边支项目。该项目倾向于将不同的声源转化为抽象的纹理，创造出全新的音景。

Night Swimmer

Night Swimmer is a Chinese musician who grew out of the raw underground music scene in Wuhan. In 2022, his album Xia Ye was released by Shy People and won the title of Bandcamp’s Album of the Day on its release date. Acclaims from Electronic Sound, Mixmag Asia, Groove.de, and MUSIC MAGAZINE ensued and cast him into the spotlight. Now living in Beijing, he is still pursuing his music career by delving deeper into 90s fourth world ambience, dub, and Chinese instrumentation. This spurred him into making Xia Ye in the first place.  Also as a DJ, he's inclined to 90s music as well, but with an orientation towards its raving side. He blends trance, poggy house, tribal gems, and left-field sonics as he manages to revive the long-lost euphoria seen and experienced by audiences back in the 90s. 

2022年以专辑《Xia Ye》当选 Bandcamp “当日最佳专辑” ，并在英国 Electronic Sound、德国 Groove.de、日本 MUSIC MAGAZINE、Mixmag Asia 等媒体上广受好评，来自湖北武汉的制作人/DJ Night Swimmer在异乡北京开花结果。 其制作多情善感，在第四世界氛围中无缝拼接中式旋律、Dub 与 New Age，音色穿梭于悠远和灵动瞬间。 作为DJ，他乐忠于在 Trance 和 Rave 能量深入浅出 Breakbeat 律动和 Left-field、Tribal声色，在90s的舞池弹跳和享乐中，呼唤爱与超然。

WhiteCrow

The music project WhiteCrow was launched by Esther Li (李美华) in 2017. She has participated in the production of advertising music for brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Anta as well as the soundtrack production of the short film Girl on Horseback. WhiteCrow was part of the 2019 ART POWER 100 "Art Discovery" unit.as candidate artist. She become the Novation China brand ambassador in 2021.

音乐计划WhiteCrow由Esther Li(李美华)于2017年发起至今，曾参与梅赛德斯奔驰、安踏等品牌的广告音乐制作；短片《马背少女》配乐制作；2019年度ART POWER 100“艺术发现”单元候选艺术家；2021年成为novation中国区品牌大使。

Yukes玉刻

Guzheng-playing foreigners are a rare breed. Even rarer is stacking a guzheng with synthesizers, stomp-boxes, groove machines, and playing it backwards. A constant experiment of an unheard guzheng style tends to steal the spotlight. Right until Yukes begins singing. The lyrics instantly forego the need for any electric accompaniment, revealing his struggle with stability, uncertainty, lost tranquility and youth. A contemporary blend of East & West, Justin’s hypnotizing performance strives to reinvent the guzheng and open minds in the process.

鸮鸣（Noby Owl)

A recording arts graduate, independent musician, and sound artist, 鸮鸣 (Noby Owl) gravitates towards processing equipment in conjunction with sound sources, sampling, guitar, and synthesizers in his creative endeavors. Spanning various genres, including drone, ambient, soundscapes, noise, beats, and more, he is steadfast in breaking boundaries, as every sound has musical potential. His projects reflect this ethos: from exploring the cosmos and fractal theory with "42" (2021) and "42-Parallel" (2022) to immersive sonic experiences like "Sensation" at the "Metamorphosis - Endless Landscapes" exhibition (2023). His performances incorporate live improvisational sets like "Nomadic Winds" and "Bridge" (2023), noise-inspired performances such as "Hurts" in the "Dismember the Pain" exhibition (2023), and exploration of the concept of sensory illusion in his piece "Stained Perception" (2024).

Kagami Smile

'Kagami Smile is from an industrial city a few hours from Chicago and spends some of his time in the futuristic sprawl of Shenzhen, China. He takes influence from shoegaze records as well as minimal techno labels such as Chain Reaction and Modern Love. His most recent output of music focuses on minimal meditative synthwork reminiscent of early Aphex Twin and strong nods to Japanese video game soundtracks as well as the concept of liminal spaces. His music reflects a series of recurring dreams had since 2017, that of a missed moment with a stranger. His compositions are usually filled with nostalgia and romance as well as a haze of urban solitude. He has released on labels such as Dream Catalogue, Tekres, SOVN, Gin&Platonic, as well as an upcoming album on Opal Tapes and Sores (Sound+Matter) from Sweden. He will also release an album on Shimmering Moods this year’.-Spotify

mafmadmaf

Born and raised in Canton, mafmadmaf is a sound artist who also engages in graphic design, and publishing. His work mainly includes ambient music, installation, and publications. He is Inspired by the openness and logical rationality of modular synthesizers combined with interdisciplinary practice in biological sciences, visual arts, and musical instrument training. His creation is thus full of experimental spirit and structural aesthetics. He has been running an independent publishing house called Jyugam since 2020.

生長於廣州， mafmadmaf 是一名聲音創作者，同時從事平面設計和獨立出版，作品類型主要包括氛圍音樂、裝置和出版物。聲音創作啓發於模組合成器的開放與邏輯理性，結合其生物科學、視覺藝術、樂器訓練等跨領域經驗，他的作品充滿實驗精神和結構美感。曾參與東京模組合成器藝術節、浮梁大地藝術節、南海大地藝術節、日本越後妻有大地藝術節等國內外藝術節和展覽，享受於不同場域特性中創造聲音景觀。2020 年起運作獨立出版機構 Jyugam。

Yu Hein

Yu Hein is an electronic music producer based in Guangzhou. His music style wanders between ambient, new age, and dub. Yu Hein hopes to deepen the audience's understanding of their living environment. He is also the co-runner of Jyugam, a music label based in Guangdong, and produces other types of music under the alias Ninelo. 

Yu Hein现居广州，音乐风格游走于Ambient、New Age和Dub之间，是广东音乐厂牌Jyugam的主理人之一，创作希望是能加深听众对他们生活环境的理解。同时也在以“Ninelo”等名义制作着其他类型的音乐。

Lastboss

Lastboss is a multi-genre electronic music project from Manchester, England. It aims to share a passion for music and music technology through live events, production, workshops, exhibitions, content creation and collaboration. 

Lastboss 是一位来自英国曼切斯特的多风格电子音乐的项目。目标是i通过现场活动、制作、工作坊、艺术展览、内容创作和合作来分享对音乐和音乐技术的热情。

A R C H I T E C T

A R C H I T E C T is a project developed by Alex Damboianu, Romanian sound artist and architect based in Beijing since 2011 and Chongqing since 2022. Like his architecture, the sound is part of a body of work that facilitates introspection and meditation on the human condition. The experience of sublime is also part of his expression. A R C H I T E C T’s compositions are abstract, predominantly dark and sometimes disturbing. His live performances are always different from each other and include a lot of freedom for improvisation and contingency. The few recordings published are results of spontaneous findings from his daily sound sessions. Digital and analogue sounds, as well as field recordings, are the raw materials of his sound works.

Pool of Light

Pool of Light is the performance and recording project of multi-instrumentalist Anton Bogdanov. Exploring drone, psychedelia, and improvisation, Anton's work guides the listener into a trance as soundscapes evolve over time. Under the Pool Of Light project, Anton has released music via Pantheon, Pyramidblood, WV Sorcerer Productions, Golden Ratio Frequencies, Grisaille, Mouhoi, Dub Cthonic, Rusted Tone Recordings, Unline, as well as independently. Never compromising on quality, Anton's discography is impressive over the years since starting the project in 2017.

Nico (Nicola Mazzei) is a sound designer and bass player from Italy. He currently plays with the bands Huge and Golden Flow. Previous bands include Voodoo Kungfu, Nakoma, Never Before, Sound Sculptures, Nekroma, and Zhou Fengling.

Slot Canyons

Slot Canyons is a solo ambient electronic music project. It combines elements of field recordings, fragmented electronics and spacey drones with glitchy guitars. All the music is made by using minimal hardware and relies on the use of layering different textures with an emphasis on granular synthesis.

Talented yet Troubled

Talented yet Troubled is an electronic musician, producer, and live performer who primarily focuses on live sets in ambient electronic, minimal, experimental, dark & hard techno, techno-house, IDM, art dance, improvisational electronic music, and other adjacent underground genres. He was born in Belarus, spent several years living in Italy, and the US, where he studied Fine Arts, which influenced the experimental nature of his performances. Living in China gave him an opportunity to find his musical style and methods of playing. Talented yet Troubled releases music on his own label, Fogleb Records. His previously released music has been praised by Sophie Hawley-Weld from Grammy-nominated duo Sofi Tukker, an award-winning singer Alita Moses, and others. He’s done several DJ sets for Brooklyn’s HalfmoonBK and has completed a two month weekly residency at Stoned in Dalian playing live electronic sets including for members of such iconic bands as WangWen from China and Mono from Japan. For the past three months he's been traveling around China with Biohacking CN, playing in some of the most recognized clubs in the country. Occasionally he also creates graphics for his live performances using a combination of visual software and royalty-free or public domain videos.

The Silent S

The Silent S is a DIY project founded in early 2018 by the artist behind the industrial electronic/noise black metal group Before the Revival. It is mainly a music project but occasionally produces music videos as well. This solo project gathers inspiration from word fragments he randomly recorded when he was young. He also incorporates additional melodies and sounds floating in his mind late at night into his music. His style has gradually changed from early guitar-based folk and ambient music to synthesizer-based indie pop with dreamy and gloomy temperaments. Sometimes, there are also longer ambient works. His current goal is to become a proficient DAW user.

The Silent S是由工业电子/噪音黑金属单人团体Before the Revival的幕后人员于2018年初创立的DIY项目，主要制作音乐，偶尔也会做些音乐录影带。这个单人项目的灵感源自年少时期随手记录的文字碎片及深夜漂浮在脑海中的旋律和声响。风格从早期以吉他为主的民谣和氛围音乐逐渐转为以合成器为主、带有梦幻和阴郁气质的独立流行乐，有时也会制作一些时长较长的氛围音乐。现在的目标是尝试成为一名熟练的DAW使用者。

fenni

Independent sound artist, fenni, explores and studies the nature of sound and the physical response of sound core vibrations. She also focuses on the combined reaction of sound collision in resonance while creating an abstract language concepts to form their own unique acoustic system. Her work involves ambience, noise, and and switches freely through electronic music, dark ambient, micro-sound, glitch, ambient dub and minimal techno.

李言增

Li Yanzeng (李言增) is a sound artist, electronic musician, and producer. His work spans from music and video art to installations, etc. His creativeness is based on minimalistic aesthetics and pursues spontaneous and non-narrative expressions on the spot. His live performances are mainly presented through hardware equipment and are stylistically towards experimental electronics, noise improvisation, and techno.

Mai Mai is a script writer. film director, and experimental musician. He graduated from Shanghai Theater Academy and works and lives in Shanghai. In 2006, Mai Mai formed a noise rock band called Muscle snog in which he is a vocalist, guitarist and song-writer. Since 2008 he has been running the experimental music platform R.E.S.O. He commenced his personal experimental music project in the same year, using the pseudonym Mai Mai. As a filmmaker, Mai Mai has made many short films and video works. In in 2013, his short film Four Cowards was selected by the 43rd Tampere International Short Film Festival (International Competition Section).

卖卖：编剧、导演，实验音乐家。毕业于上海戏剧学院戏文系，现工作生活于上海。2006年组建实验摇滚乐队Muscle Snog，任主唱/吉他手和词曲作者，乐队09年兵马司发行了首张专辑《mind shop》后解散。08年，卖卖开始运行即兴音乐组织“R.E.S.O.”,同时开始以个人身份进行自由即兴、实验音乐的尝试。 卖卖的影像创作以实验短片为主，2013年，短片作品《胆小鬼们》入围了欧洲三大短片电影节之一——芬兰坦佩雷电影节国际竞赛单元。2012年，短片作品《桃花源：厌世解决方案》入围了第十一届法国Signes de Nuit国际电影节，获国际竞赛单元Night Award奖。
